We began offering a great variety of tools for flute makers, which eventually led us carrying Japanese bamboo flutes.


Each listed flute is commissioned under our brand Mejiro Co. by Japanese makers and is built with the quality and attention expected from the finest specialty shakuhachi makers.


Our collection of shakuhachi covers a range of styles and needs, so there should be plenty of choice for serious shakuhachi enthusiasts.
Our standard flute is affordable, but is given the same care in construction as our higher priced models. Each is built with high-quality Japanese workmanship by people who care about their craft.

As with other specialist items, you pay for quality with shakuhachi flutes. Bamboo shakuhachi below a couple hundred dollars will not be suitable, and the craftsmanship will be poor. The construction process, including build quality and inner workings, mean a genuine flute takes months to complete. If you play on a poor quality and genuine shakuhachi flute, you'll be able to tell the difference.
Flutes purchased directly from Mejiro on amazon.com come with a gorgeous fabric case, cap, cleaning cloth and plastic bags.
Note: Jinashi shakuhachi is not tuned to western scales. Most ideal for solo play.


Hand-made 2.6/(F#) SHAKUHACHI
A hairline crack (which does not affect the sound) on the side has been repaired and sealed by the maker himself. Real gold is used for the myoan utaguchi (mouthpiece) and the urushi lacquer is applied inside to prevent future cracks.
